A Santa Barbara shooting causes more debates on gun restrictions.

A recent shooting in Santa Barbara, California has caused more debates about gun rights, according to this article.  The gunman, Elliot Rodger, was 22 when he stabbed three people and shot three others, killing them all.  He later killed himself. Many people are upset because not enough has been done after shootings in Columbine, Virginia Tech, Sandyhook, and many other locations to prevent massacres like this one.

Many ideas regarding gun laws have been proposed but politicians don't spend enough time and effort getting laws to pass or creating changes to prevent future deaths.  Although some states such as Georgia, where guns are allowed everywhere, Connecticut, where there are restrictions on guns that fire more than ten rounds, and Colorado, where more background check have been put in place, have created new laws, many states have not acted to make changes or decisions.

Millions of dollars have gone into lobbying and sponsoring gun bills and numerous different debates have given different ideas and opinions as to what could and should be done about guns.  Many people are speaking out and advocating for further gun control but nothing is being done.

More background checks should definitely be put into place before guns are sold to anyone.  If a person has a violent past or history of mental health problems, it should be illegal for them to purchase a gun because of the effects it could have on other people.  Guns should also not be sold to anyone if they can fire more than so many rounds.

Although some people should have the right to own a hunting rifle or even a hand gun for self-protection, no one should be able to purchase a machine gun or automatic rifle  and no one should be able to purchase any type of gun without being sure that their right to bear arms will not affect someone else's right to live.  Far too many shooting have caused deaths in this country and something should be done before more innocent people are killed.

If dogs ran the government, destructive weapons would not be given out to just anyone and something would be done to reduce the number of deaths caused by shootings.
